FAQs:

General:

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel less than 24 hours before any service, you will still be responsible to pay for that service. If you have a package, you will lose one of the days in your package. When booking a training package or pet sitting/ boarding dates you will need to put a deposit down to lock in the dates. This deposit is nonrefundable and you will not get this back if you cancel the entire program or dates.

We understand that accidents/emergencies happen and will use our discretion on whether or not we will charge you for the date that you cancel last minute. More often than not, you will not be charged for that day.

What areas do you serve?

Do I have to fill out the same form every time that I want to book something?

Nope! Once you are an established customer, all you will have to worry about is booking!

Do you require deposits to book your services?

Yes, for petsitting/boarding and for training programs. You will be required to put down a 20 percent deposit to book the dates and/or package.

Will you give my pet their medication?

Absolutely! Whatever your pet needs, whether it be injectable, oral, or topical I will have no problem giving it to your pet!

My dog has an extremely sensitive stomach, can I trust that you won't give my dog anything that I don't approve of?

My dog also has an incredibly sensitive stomach so I know the pain of having to deal with the repercussions of your dog having something that they shouldn't and because of this, I try to only use treats with the simplest of ingredients for the sensitive bellies. However, I would never give your dog anything that you don't approve of!

Will my pet be safe in your care?

Your pets safety is of the utmost important thing to me! When your pet is in my care, they will be treated just like they are my own and I would never do anything to put them in danger. I have also taken first aid and nutrition classes and I always make sure to have a first aid book on me at all times which also includes a list of all of the local vets, including all emergency vets in the area.

My pet has a medical condition, are you still okay caring for them?

Of course! I have worked with and taken care of pets with all sorts of medical issues so I am totally comfortable with it! In fact, if your pets medical condition requires a vet stay while in my care, I will also take them to the vet at no additional charge. Just let me know ahead of time so I can add it to my schedule.

Will you work with dogs of any size?

Yep! I have worked with dogs of all sizes and am totally comfortable with them all!

My pet can be a little weird with strangers and needs time to warm up to new people, is that okay?

Yes! I have always worked around pets like this and they can take as much time as they need to warm up to me. I would never force anything on your pet, I have learned over the years that the key to success, is going at the pets pace no matter how long that takes.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, making sure I was fully insured was one of the first steps I took when opening my business!

I'm a crazy pet parent, Would you be willing to take a background check for me?

Absolutely, in fact, I can provide a background check upon request to make it easier but if you would still like me to take one that you provide, I am totally okay with doing that too!

How long have you been working in the pet industry?

Officially, I have been in the pet industry for 10 years, however, I have done pet sitting for family and friends for as long as I can remember!

Training:

What type of training do you do?

While I primarily focus on balanced training, I would never shove anything down your throat. There may be times that I strongly suggest a tool but ultimately it is your decision on what tools you want to use on your dog. All that I ask is that you listen to the "why" before making any decisions.

I have a pretty hectic schedule, would private lessons be too hard for me to fit in my schedule?

Here at Cait's Canines and Company, I understand how busy life can be. This is why instead of making clients do training on a week by week schedule, we offer clients 180 days to complete all of their lessons! Whether you choose to do weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, it's what works best for you!

Can you give me more information on your specialty classes?

I am Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog Certified. I offer classes and test for all four Canine Good Citizen tests and the five levels of Trick Training. For more information and the requirements for these tests you can find them here:

For training, do you come to me or do I come to you?

While you can certainly come to me, and I may suggest it for certain things such as socialization, I will primarily come to you. Most dogs are most comfortable in their own element and home and are more likely to show the negative behaviors that you may want to work on. This is also important for dogs that are nervous, especially in public settings or places that they are unfamiliar with.

Pet Care & Walks:

What is the difference between pet sitting and boarding?

Pet sitting is me coming to your house to watch your pet(s) and boarding is your dog staying at my house.

Why can't my dog be allowed to free roam in your home?

After working in the pet industry for the past 10 years, I have seen some terrifying things. From a dog pooping out marijuana and underwear to dogs needing to get surgery because they had an obstruction. I can't, in good conscience, leave a dog unsupervised in my home, even though my home is totally dog proof. There is always a chance of something, and to me, it is not worth the risk.

Do you offer meet and greets prior to the service?

Absolutely! I actually have a section in my pet care applications asking if you would like to request a meet and greet prior to any other service (excluding training) please let me know and I will happily set up a meeting with you!

Will you take care of our small animals while we are gone?

Yep and if I am coming to your house for your dogs and/or cats, there is no additional charge for small animals!

Why is my dog so tired after picking them up from boarding with you?

Boarding in general takes a lot out of a dog! New place, new smells, new everything and that can be incredibly exhausting for a dog. Not only that, but when your dog is boarding with me, they will be doing numerous activities throughout the day whether that be enrichment, training, or both which can also take a lot out of them. Don't be surprised if your dog comes home and is tired for a few days. After all, they were basically on vacation too! The best thing you can do is allow your dog to rest for a couple of days before going back to their normal routine!

How will I know if you actually came to my house for a drop in visit or walk?

I will send you in depth updates on how your dog did during the visit! I am currently in the process of looking for a software that has a GPS tracking so you will know exactly where I and/or your pet will be.

Will you still take my dog out in bad weather?

As long as it is safe to be outside, I will walk your dog in any weather. However if there is a day that is too hot or too cold, I may substitute a part of the walking time with indoor activities. This will mostly be for walks over a half hour long. However, if you have a scheduled walk for longer than a half hour and you don't want your dog walking in too hot or cold weather and would prefer me not to do any indoor activities, please let me know and I will either refund the money for that extra time or I will put it towards their next walk.

How will I know that my dog is safe if you take them out of my house?

First, all dogs that I am taking out of their homes MUST have proper ID tags on, if your dog is not wearing one, I will put a generic ID tag on them with my own number. Second, I always use a safety backup for any walking tool in case something does happen. I also always carry spray shield on me in case an off leash dog approaches.

Will you let my dog interact with other dogs or people on walks?

Nope. Your dogs safety and well being is most important to me. Coming from a training standpoint, I understand that some dogs don't like humans and that on leash greetings are one of the biggest causes for dog fights. In both situations, it is not worth the risk. Also, from a training standpoint, I have also gotten pretty good at saying the word "no".

Can you take my dog to the dog park?

Unfortunately, for safety reasons, I will never take a dog to the dog park.
